In 1975, a group of young and ambitious students stepped into the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Jadavpur University ( FETJU) , embarking on a journey that would shape their lives forever. Five decades later, we come together once again—reuniting from across the country and around the world—to celebrate 50 years of memories, friendship, and camaraderie.
This platform is a tribute to the golden days we spent together, the bonds that have stood the test of time, and the shared nostalgia that brings us back to where it all began. Through stories, reflections, and cherished moments, we relive the spirit of our youth and the legacy of our batch. Here, we reconnect, reminisce, and rejoice—because some friendships are forever, and some journeys never truly end.
About 300 young boys and girls, all in their teens, started their journey on the August Morning’ of 1975, in pursuit of knowledge, skills, and personal growth, aiming to achieve their educational and career goals. They were the entrants to the undergraduate courses of different departments, under the ‘Faculty of Engineering and Technology’ of Jadavpur University(JU). There were all cheery with a sense of freedom from the regimentation of the schools and relaxations from the guardians, but at the same time they were a little bit sceptical about the new ambience. Soon they were drawn into a mesmeric trance—– the classrooms, the labs, the workshops, the vast playground, Satyen da, the newly inaugurated ‘Amenity Centre,’ the world on the other side of the ‘Jheel,’ and what and what not. In course of time, they matured into adults, and had to part, although with a heavy heart, in search of their careers. But JU remained in their heart.
In 2025, they regrouped to celebrate the ‘Golden Jubilee’ of their admission to JU. Their hair has turned grey, their postures have bent a little, but the zeal of Jadavpurians, the sense of camaraderie, were still there. Of course, they were pensive about the friends they have lost over these fifty years. They were also anxious as to how on meeting their old friends after 45 years, they would interact. Once they met, there was however smooth sailing. For two days, on 18th and 19th January 2025, they enjoyed to their hearts’ content, they sang, they danced, they recited, they lunched and dined together; but they had to part again. However, they pledged on this occasion that, in this second innings of their life they shall not only be in touch over the social media, but such gatherings are to be arranged time to time, and may be on a much larger scale in 2030, to celebrate the ‘Golden Jubilee’ of their graduation.
Kolkata: About 150 former students, who had taken admission to the Jadavpur University’s Faculty of Engineering and Technology in 1975, gifted its alma mater Rs 10 lakh on Saturday as part of the golden jubilee year celebration. The money will be utilised for the infrastructure development of the university. The batch held an event at the Triguna Sen Auditorium, where they felicitated many former professors and other dignitaries
